We say 'it's no longer the 's, it's now In a cabinet shuffle on January 4, , Kent was named Minister of the Environment.
In November , Kent participated in the Durban Conference and in December of the same year announced that Canada would formally begin the process to withdraw from the Kyoto Protocol on climate change.
As Minister of the Environment, Kent was a vocal supporter of the development of the oil sands , in line with the conservative government's stated economic priorities.
He went so far as to make accusations of treason against opposition party members. This was in response to two NDP members of Parliament going to Washington to argue the Keystone Pipeline should not go ahead until Canada has come up with a better plan to combat climate change.
In a CBC interview, Kent stated there is no evidence that the oil sands developments are polluting the Athabasca River. The presentation highlights contamination of the Athabasca River as a high-profile concern.
Citing elevated levels of pollutants near mining sites including hydrocarbons and heavy metals, possible effects on health of wildlife and downstream communities, and questioning current government data which is unable to generate a "big picture" view of impacts on the ecosystem.

He acts both for local authorities and parents. While this is increasingly a technical area, he is determined that matters can be resolved as efficiently as the system permits, and ultimately in the best interests of the child.
As well as this, Peter is alert to the difficulties of low monetary value cases which can be just as difficult as those with high net worth.
He has acted on and advised in many TOLATA claims and takes a particular interest in the conveyancing process when acting for unmarried people or for the elderly.
He also deals with the Matrimonial and Family Proceedings Act applications for financial relief following a foreign divorce.
Institute of Family Law Arbitrators. This scheme was inaugurated in and Peter has qualified as an Arbitrator within the scheme. The scheme covers: financial disputes arising from divorce; claims on inheritance from a child, spouse etc; financial claims made in England and Wales after a divorce abroad; claims for child maintenance between unmarried parents; disputes about ownership of a property between cohabiting couples and civil partnership financial claims.
While procedure is flexible, arbitrators apply the MCA and relevant case law. IFLA developed the arbitration scheme to enable parties to resolve financial disputes more quickly, cheaply and in a more flexible and less formal setting than a court room.
It is also expected to save court resources and reduce pressure on the already stretched family courts.
Peter will accept instructions as an advocate where disputes are in arbitration as is also available either by agreement, or as nominated, to act as arbitrator in particular disputes.
This scheme is in its infancy but we members of IFLA all hope that we can offer a user friendly alternative to those seeking a solution to their dispute.
We hope, too, that the flexibility within arbitration can keep costs down and enable a speedier resolution of cases.
Peter Kent is qualified to accept instructions directly from members of the public and professional clients under the Direct Public Access scheme.
They were amongst the first in London to have their partnership formally acknowledged at a ceremony in the Mayor of London's new City Hall.
Anyone who shared the riotous event, complete with poems and contributions from numerous friends, saw life being lived, acknowledged and celebrated unforgettably to the full.
However, perhaps his greatest achievement, however strange it may seem, and the crowning event of his too brief life he died at 49 was the manner of his leaving of it.
It was not bravado that made the last two years of his life, by his own acknowledgement, two of the most rewarding of them all.
Not only did he pursue his work with an unexaggerated but heightened effectiveness, but he spent extraordinary energy and time on the emotions, however exhausting they must have been, of the people around him.
In skilful conversations, he prepared, translated and salved the sadness of the situation into positivity.
As things deteriorated he repeatedly found an Ortonesque comic resource and in the end we realised that this apparently mild and unruffled, elegant, calm man had the kind of guts that elevates struggle to a point where inspiration replaces suffering.
As is often the case in retrospect, one can feel that a life curtailed is nevertheless the right shape for the one who is living it, however cruel the truncation is for the living.
And perhaps this explains in part why he always seemed to be so unimpressed by his own achievements, even as awards and honours came with time.
